Sarah Cecilia Harrison is remembered primarily as a portrait artist who was closely involved in setting up the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin. She was also a political activist who devoted much of her life to improving the lot of the large numbers of poverty stricken Dubliners. In pursuit of that aim, she was elected in 1912 as the first female councillor in Dublin. Corporation.
